Half of my genealogy is a bit of a mystery. My mother grew up under very impoverished circumstances: on a farm, in the middle of the jungle, in the Philippines. Where she came from, there was no television, no running water, no shoes, no electricity.
This thesis aims to emphasize both the importance of understanding, and documenting disappearing cultures, as well as the connection that is created when passing on stories from one generation to the next. It is a visual conversation, a halfway point between old and young, reality and imagination.
